Raków Częstochowa are set to say goodbye to Norwegian striker Jonatan Brunes. The deal with Sparta Prague is nearly done, and the Częstochowa club will record a historic sale. The transfer is almost sealed, though documents are yet to be signed.
Who is leaving Raków Częstochowa?
Jonatan Brunes, a 23-year-old Norwegian international, has been training with Raków’s first team in recent weeks. Dawid Kroczek, the club’s head coach, had expected him to feature this season. Brunes, however, has long aimed for a move to a stronger league and bigger stage. His target: Sparta Prague, which finally moved into concrete talks.
Record fee and fan reaction
Wojciech Cygan, a Raków board member, confirmed on the Meczyki show that the transfer is highly advanced. The risk of collapse remains low, though papers are not yet notarized. – At this moment, the documents aren’t signed, but the chance this deal falls through is relatively small – Cygan said.
The transfer fee is reported around six million euros. That’s a club record, and it has sparked debate among supporters. Some argue 5-6 million euros is too little and demand at least 8-10 million. Cygan pushed back: Life is a bit more complicated than Football Manager.
What’s next for Raków Częstochowa?
Brunes is unlikely to feature in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers as his move to Prague is finalized. Raków, which finished 2025 in 4th place in Ekstraklasa with 55 points, now faces the task of replacing its top scorer. The club loses not just a reliable finisher but also an experienced attacker.
Raków Częstochowa, coming off a 2025/26 season in which they scored 51 goals and conceded 40 (a +11 goal difference), remain five points behind league leaders Lech Poznań. Their last outing, a 3-0 win over Arka Gdynia on May 23, 2026, capped a recent run of four wins and one draw in five games, showing the team’s resilience despite incoming changes.
