Raków Częstochowa missed out on a significant €2.5 million windfall due to injuries suffered by Srđan Plavšić. The Serbian winger confirmed a move to OGC Nice was at an advanced stage before successive knee and Achilles problems derailed the entire deal.
Plavšić joined Raków from Slavia Prague in the summer of 2023, signing a contract until June 2026. In February 2024, he suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in training, expected to sideline him for around three months. He returned after two, but ruptured his Achilles tendon on his third session back. The club issued a medical report on the matter on 7 May. "At one point I had an offer from Nice. Almost everything was agreed, Raków was to get 2.5 million euros," Plavšić said.
The serious injuries completely altered the player's career path. Instead of a move to Ligue 1, he was loaned to Baník Ostrava in August 2025. In February 2026, Raków announced they would not renew his contract, and Plavšić became a free agent in the summer. He eventually signed with Železničar Pančevo in late August 2026. For the Częstochowa club, it meant the loss of planned funds that could have been reinvested in the squad. Raków currently sit 18th in the Ekstraklasa with just three points from nine games. Their next test is tomorrow's match at home to GKS Katowice, who are in ninth place. The current stats and squad pages show how important finding consistent form is now.
Plavšić, now 30, made 35 appearances for Raków, scoring one goal and providing three assists. He was regularly used as a left wing-back, also featuring in Champions League qualifiers and the Europa League group stage against Atalanta, Sporting CP and Sturm Graz. His career also includes spells at Red Star Belgrade and Sparta Prague, along with two caps for Serbia. For Raków, his story ended without the transfer fee the club had counted on.
