Raków Częstochowa have returned to Dawid Szwarga, appointing him as their third coach of the 2026/27 season. The decision comes after a disastrous start which has seen the club collect only six points from twelve matches and sit bottom of the Ekstraklasa table.

Club president Wojciech Cygan explained the reasons for the change. “Together with the owner, we came to the conclusion that we need to quickly organise the team's play, primarily the defence,” Cygan said. The president stressed that the choice fell on a person well-known to the club. “Coach Szwarga is someone we know very well, have cooperated with, and are convinced of his competence.”

Neither Dawid Kroczek nor Tomasz Kaczmarek were able to lift the team from the foot of the table. After twelve games, Raków have just two wins and ten defeats, with a goal difference of 16 scored and 28 conceded. The gap to safety is currently three points, and a massive 22 points behind leaders Lech Poznań.

Szwarga, who previously worked at Raków as an assistant and head coach, was “brought back” from his role as an assistant at GKS Katowice. His main objective is not a European push for now, but the rapid stabilisation of the team's play, especially in defence.

Szwarga's first league match in charge ended in a 2-1 defeat to Wisła Kraków. The club did record a positive result in the Polish Cup, eliminating Motor Lublin. In their most recent league outing on October 27, Raków drew 1-1 away at Motor Lublin thanks to a late goal from Lamine Diaby-Fadiga.

The next test for the new coach will be a home match against Pogoń Szczecin, scheduled for November 2. The opponent currently sits in a strong third place in the table, posing a significant challenge for the rebuilding side.

The team's top scorer this season remains Patryk Makuch with six goals. The club hopes that under Szwarga's guidance they can harness their attacking potential while tightening up at the back ahead of the upcoming league fixtures, which can be tracked on the fixtures page.
