Dawid Szwarga is the new head coach of Raków Częstochowa. The club from Częstochowa have officially confirmed the return of their former manager, signing him to a contract valid until the end of the 2027/28 season with an option for an extension.

The decision comes at a time when Raków sit bottom of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table with just six points from eleven matches, with their recent form showing two wins and three losses in their last five games. This is the fourth managerial change at the club this season. The previous coach, Tomasz Kaczmarka, was dismissed after only five games in charge, despite his final act being a 2-1 win over Wieczysta Kraków on 16 October, a match in which the decisive goals for Raków were scored by Lamine Diaby Fadiga from the penalty spot and from open play.

The club has turned to a familiar face. Dawid Szwarga previously managed Raków during the 2023/24 season, leading the team to the Europa League group stage and the fourth qualifying round of the Champions League. Earlier, as an assistant to Marek Papszun, he was part of the staff that won the Polish championship, the Polish Cup and two Polish Supercups. After leaving Częstochowa in 2024, Szwarga guided Arka Gdynia to promotion to the Ekstraklasa in May 2025, winning the I Liga title. He left Arka by mutual consent in March 2026.

"I am happy to be back at Raków and ready to take on this challenge," said Dawid Szwarga.

Szwarga takes over a team in crisis. Raków have only two league wins this term and trail leaders Gornik Zabrze by twenty points. Their goal difference stands at 15 scored and 26 conceded. In recent weeks, the team also suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to GKS Katowice, where the sole Raków goal was scored by Patryk Makuch, who is currently the team's top scorer with six goals this season. The immediate test is an away fixture against sixth-placed Wisla Krakow. The match is scheduled for Saturday, 24 October, at 20:15. Raków will then face Motor Lublin in the Polish Cup, followed by league games against Pogon Szczecin and Legia Warszawa.

Szwarga's return involves a financial transaction. Raków agreed to pay GKS Katowice 250,000 PLN for the coach's transfer, with a further 100,000 PLN bonus payable if the team avoids relegation. The new manager was born on 7 October 1990 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. His first spell in charge at Raków will run until June 2028.
