Raków Częstochowa have sacked head coach Tomasz Kaczmarek after just five league matches in charge. The decision comes with the club sitting bottom of the Ekstraklasa table with only six points from eleven games.

The club paid around one million złoty to secure Kaczmarek's services from Radomiak Radom just a few weeks ago. Konrad Ferszter noted, "Raków, inspired by Kaczmarek's temporary work at Radomiak, paid about a million złoty for him and set him a difficult, time-consuming task."

Media reports have suggested a potential return for Dawid Szwarga, a former assistant to Marek Papszun and the club's coach in the 2023/24 season. These reports remain unconfirmed. Kamil Głębocki stated, "From what I've managed to find out, it's not yet certain that Dawid Szwarga will become the coach." Szwarga is currently an assistant to Rafał Góraka at GKS Katowice.

The decision to dismiss Kaczmarek reportedly surprised the coach himself and was a one-person call by club owner Michał Świerczewski. This marks the third managerial change at Raków in 2024, not counting Dawid Szulczek's temporary takeover.

Raków's league context

The team is in deep crisis, with only two wins in eleven matchdays and a goal difference of -11 (15 scored, 26 conceded). Kaczmarek's final match ended in a 2-1 win over Wieczysta Kraków, but it did not improve the team's dire league position. Raków now trails the league leaders by twenty points.

The immediate test for the squad, regardless of who is in charge, is an away fixture against Wisła Kraków on Saturday, 24 October. Wisła currently sit 6th in the table, with Raków two points behind them. Patryk Makuch remains the team's top scorer this season with six goals.
