Raków Częstochowa suffered a 3-2 away defeat to Korona Kielce in the 9th round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. The loss means the team remains at the bottom of the table.
The match in Kielce on Saturday, 19 September, was a chaotic affair featuring nine yellow cards and four red cards. After a goalless first half, the second period exploded with five goals. Ondrej Lingr scored in the 90th minute for Raków, while Mariusz Stępiński found the net twice in the 20th and 62nd minutes. For the hosts, Lamine Diaby-Fadiga scored and Stępiński converted two penalties.
The Częstochowa side had slightly less possession (45%) and fewer corners (4 to 5) but proved more clinical in front of goal. Defensive discipline was an issue, resulting in five yellow cards and two reds for Raków. Despite the numerical disadvantage at times, goalkeeper Xavier Dziekoński and the defence held firm under late pressure to secure the win.
The Raków manager made several impactful substitutions in the second half, introducing players like Simon Gustafson and Morgan Fassbender to refresh the midfield. These changes helped the team maintain control during the decisive final stages.
Before this fixture, Raków Częstochowa sat in 18th and last place in the Ekstraklasa with just three points. Following Saturday's triumph, the team remains in the relegation zone but has closed the gap to safety. It now has six points and an improved goal difference.
This victory breaks a run of four consecutive league defeats. Prior to this, Raków had lost to Lech Poznań, Gornik Zabrze, Jagiellonia and Zaglebie Lubin. The team's form over the last five matches reads one win and four losses. The team has earned 5 points from those five matches. The next test is a home fixture against GKS Katowice scheduled for 9 October. The upcoming schedule is always listed in our fixtures calendar.
Patryk Makuch, the team's top scorer this season with five goals in nine appearances, did not get on the scoresheet in Kielce. His form will be vital against Katowice, who currently occupy ninth place. The last meeting between these sides ended in a 1-1 draw back in July.
